That's a great idea. As I mentioned, we have about 50 RB333's in the
field, and only about 5 of them failing. Those five are all in
direct sun from about 1:00PM to 6:00PM (and they start failing
around 3:00PM each day). Something to just block the sun would
probably fix the problem, and would be much easier to install.
Let us know if it works and send a link with pictures.
The specs on the RB333 say operating temperature is up to 149F. I
don't see anywhere that shows the current temp on the board in Winbox?
Sorry.... brain fart here. I was confusing the voltage monitor with
temp monitor. They don't have a temp monitor but it would be real
interesting to see how hot your 5 boxes are running inside compared
to the ambient temperature when they fail.

Yes, they fit (just barely). I'm wondering about putting a fan on
the hinged front door with a cover over the outside and have the air blow out.
The problem is that you also need to add a vent that allows the air
to draw in. And you need to keep water out.
A better solution might be a sun shield for the box. That allows
you to keep the box sealed.
A sun shield is a light colored sheet metal or plastic shield
mounted at least 3/4 inch off the outdoor box on the "sun
side". The sun side is to the south or south west and overhead in
North America. The minimum 3/4 inch air gap allows air to flow
between the box and the shield. This helps to draw away the heat
that the sun shield has blocked.
As you can guess, the temperature inside the box is much higher
when exposed to direct sunlight than it would be in a shaded
area. The shaded area is what you are trying to create with a sun shield.
Probably worth a try.
You might also log and graph the temperature that the RB333 is
running at. It would be interesting to see at what temperature the
failure point lies.

I think it would work, just wondering how long it will last
during the winter.

Wow, that is going to be tight, isn't it? Didn't realize a RB333
would fit in a DCE. Certainly no room for a fan of any size.
I haven't looked very much for fans as all my RB333s are in open
air, so I can not help there.

Any suggestions for a fan that will work on a DCE case that will
also plug into a 333 board?

Maybe that is why the RB333 has fan controls on it. Try a fan
or two as the card has automatic failover if the primary fan dies.

Hi,
With temps now hitting 95F in the late afternoon, we are
seeing several RB333 boards shut down and/or reboot. Once it
cools down they go back to running fine. We have seen 5 boards
out of 50 we have installed fail. They are all in DCE cases.
Just wanted to share with everyone in case they are seeing
strange problems with these boards.
