More to the point: Suppose you have a business customer that wants its employees to connect to the office via a VPN. Employees try to do so from their home DSL connections and find that they're stuck in the "slow lane," with extremely slow access to the office LAN, even though the promised bandwidth of their customers' lines should be enough to allow good access. The ILEC says, "Switch to us and we will make sure that the speed is adequate anywhere in our region." You, the small ISP, don't have the regional footprint of the telco (e.g SBC/AT&T) and can't do the same. The ILECs, which are engaged in a bloody struggle to gain an edge over other ISPs (especially the cable companies), can and will engage in such anticompetitive tactics if allowed to do so. --Brett Glass To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
