[isp-wireless] Conflict between SMC/ZCom high power card and certain APs?
The darnedest thing happened to me a day or two ago. I have a high power ZCom WiFi card -- one of the 200mW jobs -- which has been rebranded by SMC. I believe that it's Prism 2.5-based. Brought it to a conference on the local university campus and attempted to connect to their local Wi-Fi. Not only did it fail to associate with the (open) AP, but it drove CPU usage on the laptop I was carrying (I had it booted into Windows 2000) to nearly 100% and pretty much crippled the system. Couldn't even use a utility like NetStumbler to scan for a different AP that might work better.

I then removed the SMC card and switched to a Cisco Aironet 350 card. It associated with the AP perfectly.

Has anyone seen this phenomenon before?
