900 MHz PtP isn't popular because there is no relaxation of
EIRP limits for PtP on that band. And tightly focused antennas
for that wavelength are BIG. Also, your throughput will be
much more limited than it would be on higher frequencies
because the whole band is 20 MHz wide.
IMHO, 5.8 GHz should have been reserved for unlicensed PtP
only (it's a shame to see all of that PtMP polluting that
band, not to mention cordless phones) and 2.4 and 900 MHz
should have been reserved for outdoor wireless broadband --
with spectral efficiency requirements of 2 bits/hertz
minimum.
Cordless phones should have stayed down on 49 MHz, where
they work quite well. Just my $0.02.
