Re: [isp-wireless] 'Tropos Networks' experiences good or bad?
Tom,

Speaking of the Tropos deployment in New Orleans...

As quoted from the article,

"But because moving data from access point to access point utilizes a
good deal of bandwidth on the wireless network, the city found that it
needed to hard-wire a connection after every two access points.
Otherwise, Drake said, the available bandwidth would sink below 1 Mbps."

Every two access points needed a hard wire? OUCH!
That kind of defeats the purpose of a Mesh, doesn't it?

The entire article can be found here:

Is that any help?

Anybody worked with or against these radios care to comment and share experiences?

They are linux based, mesh network, 1 watt radio output with dual 7.4dBi Omni antennas. Said to be deployed in New Orleans, OK City, Chaska, MN and elsewhere. They recommend blanketing city areas with 10 to 15 units per square mile for full coverage. 802.11b based.

I would like to hear from those with experience. Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom
