[isp-wireless] 802.11 Association Hijacking (was: YDI Issue)
Hey guys,

About the problems you've all been seeing with the YDI EtherAnts wandering over to other APs...

http://isp-lists.isp-planet.com/isp-wireless/0410/msg00259.html
http://isp-lists.isp-planet.com/isp-wireless/0410/msg00622.html

...as Eric noted in a post made to this thread earlier (http://isp-lists.isp-planet.com/isp-wireless/0410/msg00439.html), we, too, have been affected by this issue. We're in an especially frustrating position since we have deployed many hundreds of ORiNOCO cards that are only now starting to become symptomatic as more and more home users buy and install these @#%$#@^$^& buggy routers from VARIOUS different manufacturers, not just Netgear.

And to contradict what the YDI dude told Marty, Hermes II *is* affected, unless I've been misinformed and my Proxim 802.11b ORiNOCO PCMCIA card isn't Hermes II-based.

So, I've been passively watching the posts being made about this issue back-and-forth on this list, and after seeing that not only are we *not* the only ones being affected by this (I'm *NOT* going crazy after all!) but also that certain manufacturers (read: Agere) are very non-committal about fixing this issue, I have decided to do something about it. To this effect, I have put up a web page about this issue:

http://users.moscow.com/nathana/hijack/

The aim is to put the problem in the relatively public eye of the internet community, and also to both help those who are fighting this problem by providing a resource of information for them as well as to solicit more information from others who might know more than we do. The page contains a list of affected devices (both APs that hijack as well as clients that are vulnerable to the hijacking) as well as a detailed analysis of what is going on behind-the-scenes so that the problem can be understood and fixed.

Comments and corrections to the web page would be much appreciated.
