Re, > ...The most difficult transition that most ISPs face is going > from techno-geek to business manager. Getting the mission done through the > well coordinated efforts of others... maybe an idea for a training course--how to hire, configure, and use a staff. You can waste a lot of time and money by trial and error. Even though I am not in a position to use a general staff myself, I'd like to know how in case the occasion ever arises. Another suggestion for training: As a former support tech hired to set up tech support for a new ISP, I am having to do a lot of office management. You know how complicated that is? _Amazingly_ complicated. Administrative assistants don't get half the pay or a tenth the respect they should. And, administration doesn't just come natural. I'd like a course on the basics of office management. If not a 2 day course (or so), then a checklist with things like "Get a filing cabinet. Get some hanging files. Make these labels: A, B, C..." Believe it or not, nowhere on the net could I find a source that gives the basic "directory structure" of an office filing system. And when I asked around, the professionals coyly said "It's different for everybody" --yeah, sure, we're so unique we have nothing in common with the 20 million companies that have gone before. I _know_ there must be templates out there, but where are they? C. Crowley
