[isp-win2k] RE: Monitor Traffic
There's a product called snort that folks talk about a lot. It would sit on a server plugged into a hub which also has your router and switch plugged into it, in promiscuous mode. It doesn't have to be redundant since it's not required for the traffic to cross the hub. It's an intrusion detection device, but the reports I've seen are pretty descriptive on what traffic is entering and leaving the network. It loads on a *nix box and is free.

Subject: [isp-win2k] Monitor Traffic
Is there such a beast that sits inline between my router and my core switch
that can monitor traffic and let me know which way things are going? Of
course it would need to have some redundancy and the such considering it
could be a single point of failure.
I have MRTG running on routers and switches but I want to get it to a
granular level so I can see ip based on traffic, is that possible?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Neil
