[isp-tech] RE: Network connectivity
Thom,

Is there a way I can narrow the problem down? Since I have two clients
and 4 printers giving the same problem, I would like to concentrate my
efforts so I can solve this problem. Is there any software that I can use
to watch the communications between say a printer (JETLAN BOARD) and the
server/clients? I want to see when and why it loses the network connection.
This problem is driving me crazy.

Thanks
Marty

I would also take a look at your service log on the machines. We had a
rogue machine that was taking over master browser/DNS server and losing
location of clients/IPs.

Second the Jetadmin is always a headache. I had one that was giving me
problems. Turned out the Jetdirect box we were using on that HP4TN was
a 10 meg only and was not liking the 100 mbps port on the hub. Switched
it to a 10 Mbps hub and it started working again.

But before I switched ports it was acting just like you were explaining
in your problem.

Thom

Subject: [isp-tech] Network connectivity

Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem with a network that I support. About 1/2
weeks ago a couple of users started having network connectivity problems
(i.e. computers slow, outlook problems, and internet access problems).
They are running windows 2000 server and microsoft exchange. This
preluded some network printer problems also. I have narrowed the
problems down to computers and printers losing network connectivity but
I can't figure out why. For instance, about 4 HP laserjet printers on
the network(JETLAN
boards) work for about five minutes after restarting them but then they
lose network connectivity and thus can't even ping them. I think this
is occuring for all printers with JETLAN boards but I can't be certain
of that. In addition, two out of approx. 40 clients have the same
issue.

As you can see this doesn't seem to be a network wide problem but it is
effecting both clients and printers. The strange problem here is that
printers are also being effected along with client computers. I think
if I can solve the printer issue it will also fix the client problem
(i.e. the problem of client and printers are related(.

All suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
Marty
