Trouble Making Cyrus-SASL - undefined symbols

Hi.  I've been trying to load cyrus-sasl on a solaris 8 sparc platform and 
am running into the following errors:

cc1: warning: changing search order for system directory "/usr/local/include"

and

Undefined                       first referenced
  symbol                             in file

Searching Google, sun.com, and the cyrus archives has proven futile.  The 
bad part is that I loaded it succesfully on another machine a few months 
back and had no problem.  I just can't seem to remember doing anything 
special.  If I'm being boneheaded, can somebody please slap me upside the 
head and put me back on track.
