Re: [isp-marketing] Article
The ISPCON's I have attended have seemed to be a very positive experience for the owners who attended. They told me they learned a lot, and not just from the education sessions but from fellow attendees. Most said they would come back. (If they didn't find it useful they wouldn't come back.)

I didn't hear any real whining and moaning, but I did hear discussions about common problems and the various solutions that have been tried in an attempt to overcome those problems.

Some ISP's have told me they don't attend because "If you've been to one ISPCON you've been to them all", and I think that is a very unfair comment. The people who put the event together go out of their way to provide a wide variety of content and actively seek a broad variety of vendors to obtain diversity of products on the show floor.

And yes, some of those vendors want you to resell their product to your customers . . . but you are in business to make a profit aren't you? Or is your head stuck in the sand?

I don't care what industry a business is in, they should be attending their national trade show, (in this case ISPCON), to learn about current trends, the latest innovations, and to talk with other owners to learn how they are dealing with some of the same problems you are facing.

This may come as a shock to you, but your staff can handle things just fine while you are gone for a couple of days. If you can't trust them to be left on their own then you really shouldn't have hired them in the first place.

Go to ISPCON. Mix and mingle. Listen, discuss, and learn.
