How many more that have never been a part of the group are not factored into that absentee number as well? I
... I don't know what you are asking here. There are roughly 2000 ISP's in the US. I think we get about 500 or so at any given ISPCON, including international ones.
went to a few of these types of meetings in the past and found them to be nothing but bitch fests and feel good sessions.. It was nice, like going to trade shows and other industry events to hang out, have a few cold ones and put a name to the many faces. Outside of that, there was never anything productive to be gained.
... I will agree that in the past - DC and Baltimore - ISPCON is a bitchfest. We have moved beyond that. The session can range from bad (VP of Marketing presenting) to good (case studies). The real value is in the CEO Exchange.

But beyond that - getting ideas is great. Finding out what works is great. But execution is all.

I find more value in being a member of the Junior Chamber where my time actually matters ;-)

YMMV
