I subscribe to the digest and enjoy reading it at the end of the day. Here is my first post. My comments for Peter on the call centers: For smaller jobs where only 1/5th of the telemarketer may suffice, having somone local is probably the best. But, without an autodialer reaching 30 businesses per hour (and 7 appointments / h) is impossible. An autodialer with 1 agent does not make sense. Offshore call centers work better if one needs 5 or more full time telemarketers. Once can have such telemarketes for $10-15/h all inclusive. Once the campaign is established, one can even pay them on performance. I use them for appointment setting as well as direct selling. Assuming one can do 7 appointments per h, your cost is $4-6/appointment plus leads database plus one time charges of $3400. In offshore ones the lack of accent is compensated by autodialer. Also, even if they do 2-3 appointments /h your cost is the same. If the aggregate requirement is 150+ appointments per week, I know offshore call centers that can gladly work for $5/appointment. We are interviewing call centers now to hire one tele-marketer for 5 ISPs. Each gets one day and shares the expense. The tele-marketer costs about $18-38 per hour. 8 hour days. Plus other expenses like training, LD costs, set-up and programming. Setup is about $3000. Training is about 4 hours per TM, so $100 or so. LD is 5 cpm x 60 minutes x 40 hours per week = $120 Programming of leads into IVR system is about $50 per day (since different leads every day). The script is extra, since you have to provide at least a shell to the tele-marketer. (Refining the script with the TM also costs $). (I know an excellent script writer for about $299). The leads are also extra (and the ISP has to provide them. I do have sources for decent leads). Now why one day per week? One reason is the cost of leads. Another is that as the TM sets appointments, the ISP has to send a body out to close the sale (and that is a limiting factor). Also, implementation. Let's say the TM calls 30 businesses per hour and sets 7 appointments. Let's say you close 1 in 7. That's easy implementation. But to provision 5 per week would be difficult for some ISPs - as would 35 appointments. (Of course, mileage varies with services offered). That's the synopsis of the project I am working on now. I'm sure it is not the only way to do it, but I have to start somewhere. John, thanks for asking because I had to Brain dump this somewhere :) and the forthcoming feedback should be helpful. Thank you.
