It's been said before...
But I thought I would share this from CBS Marketwatch:

Broadband providers dim their own prospects

Nine out of 10 broadband service companies have raised prices in the past
year, a trend that is expected to continue, according to ARS Inc. The
pattern continued in the first quarter of the year, as cable broadband
pricing rose to an average of $44.95 a month and DSL subscribers were asked
to pay $51.82 in March. "Industry consolidation has ripped through the
broadband market in the last year," said Mark Kersey, an industry analyst at
ARS. "We expect this trend of fewer choices and increasing prices to
continue ... (which will) hamper the widespread adoption of broadband
services." Kersey said the prospect is dial-up will be the access method for
a majority of consumers "for the foreseeable future."
