[ADMIN] ISP-Lists Update
Listees:

As many of you know, there were some problems morphing the ISP-Lists server
with the internet.com server. In fact, some of you have to read the
archives just to see the posts to the lists, including this one. I just
wanted to reassure everyone that we are working hard to resolve some of the
unforseen issues that popped up as a result:

1. Subscribe/Unsubscribe Links: When we switched to the new server, it
changed everyone's unique identifier number. So, if you try to subscribe
or unsubscribe using the footer links at the bottom of an old email, you
won't have any luck. You can (at least I did this morning) successfully
use the links on the footers of any email sent from this week forward.

2. Not able to view posts: Some list members are unable to view any of the

reason. Rest assured, you can post to the list but you won't see it unless
you go to our Web site archives
[http://isp-lists.isp-planet.com/archives/]. Our email hosts are working
on getting that resolved sometime soon. For the time being, you'll have to
use the Web site to look at posts.

3. Format/attachment errors: the new server is even more draconian about
disseminating possible viri or other formatting junk to the list
readership. Please consult your email client software support
documentation to ensure you are sending Uuencode, ASCII-type emails. I
know you might *think* you're sending plain text, but some clients --
namely AOLMail, Outlook and Groupwise -- insist on putting their own
MIME-text formatting into the email. If you're in doubt, expand the
headers on an email you're sending out and look for "Content-Disposition:
inline" or "MIME 1.0". If you see either, your email client is putting
formatting into the email. Bad, bad, email client. IMHO - dump the
bloatware and get a real email client like Eudora or Mutt (for you
propeller-heads).

emails: There's a bug in the system that is putting the join and digest
email addresses in the membership database, causing the email to trigger
back to your account. This wasn't much of a problem because I had most of
those email addresses banned on our old server. During the conversion,
however, those addresses weren't migrated, so I will need to repopulate the
banned members list when/if they pop up again. Send the message you get,
as well as what list you posted to, so I can track down and nuke the address.

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding during these trying
times. I know how essential these lists are for your business and everyone
on the ISP-Lists team is working diligently to get these problems
resolved. If you have a problem or question, feel free to contact me at
mailto:jim@isp-lists.com or call me or contact me via AIM or Y! I live to
serve. Don't be alarmed if I don't respond right away, I read all the
emails but don't: a) have the time to respond or b) I don't have an answer
for you yet or c) I don't like you (that's not true, I like you all).

I'll send updates as the problems are resolved.
