They say it's unnecessary. self-incrimination. email is the big killer. correct DNS, esp reverse, and even matching PTR + A records for any outbound gateway, is one of the best hopes of killing a lot of abuse. So far we haven't seen any problems, but we know we may in the future, with email, and perhaps with some ftp and/or ssh logins. correct, afaik. but with AOL and I hope all other big ISPs insisting on PTR hostname for any MTA, PTR hostname is not only best practice, but soon de facto law, no matter what the RFCs say.Looking through various threads on various lists and newsgroups, and through the RFCs, it appears as if reverse DNS is NOT mandatory. Anyone have any good arguments you can point me and and my client towards so we can get his provider to give him reverse dns? mail. But change providers. Who are they? so we can be warned to avoid them.
