The way I understand it is that you need to use a plug-in to use the new.net TLD's (which just appends ".new.net" to the domain name), or else (as the FAQ suggests) use a new.net partner (who are probably using a nameserver system that declares itself authoritative for the various TLD's. In short, it sounds like they need to use the plugin. They cannot use your name resolvers because you would refer them to the root servers, who have no information about the sport domain.
