According to new.net's FAQ:

  "2. Is the plug-in required to resolve New.net domains?
  No. The plug-in is only necessary for customers that do not currently
  access the Internet with one of our ISP partners. Customers using one of
  our ISP partners are able to resolve all New.net domains without the
  need for our plug-in."

 The way I understand it is that you need to use a plug-in to use the
 new.net TLD's (which just appends ".new.net" to the domain name), or else
 (as the FAQ suggests) use a new.net partner (who are probably using a
 nameserver system that declares itself authoritative for the various
 TLD's.

 In short, it sounds like they need to use the plugin.  They cannot use
 your name resolvers because you would refer them to the root servers, who
 have no information about the sport domain.
