Hello fellow admins,
Just would like to give you all a heads up about Netopia's R-Series Routers
with their Latest Firmware 4.11.3. The firmware has a bug in it which can
cause internal DNS Servers to not be able to query any information out on
the Internet. The following conditions applies to the circumstance:
- Single WAN IP address
- Routing via NAT
- Port forwarding 53 to your Internal DNS Server
We have done packet tracing and have found that the Netopia Router is
blocking the port 53 from Internal LAN to External WAN even though Port
Forwarding is enabled.
This has been confirmed as a bug in 4.11.3 and we were not able to know IF
this bug would be fixed at all. As more and more companies are trying to
prepare their networks for larger pipelines and starting to handle some of
their services locally, this issue should be addressed as soon as possible
so that this will not hinder communications.
If you use Netopia R-Series Routers, I would strongly urge you to contact
Netopia Technical Support and ask them to file a bug report which you would
like it to be fixed ASAP.
Thanks and hope this helps others with this problem.
Rudy K.
