That's what we did several years ago and it is ideal for someone like us - we
own a couple hundred domains (no, we're not a speculator, nor are they for sale)
and we register or transfer a few dozen domains each year for customers.

Keep in mind that $500 would be used up by transfering only 50 domains.  DON'T
wait until the domains are nearing their expiration.  Pay the ten bucks to
transfer them now and enjoy the benefits of the OpenSRS administration tools.
No comparison with Network Solutions crap.
