And at least half of them from people who work at/own that registrar :)

I used to recommend the following list:
Opensrs/Tucows
SRSPlus = Verisign owned, but not as evil
Enom
However, I no longer recommend Enom. They have taken a new policy of
late that they are canceling the domain name registrations of
registrants whom they get complaints about regarding spam. I have a
real problem with a registrar having the power and deciding to exercise
it over how domains are used, and essentially becoming "content police"
especially since there is NO recourse or appeal to their decision.
I would never place so much trust in a registrar who is making those
types of decisions to alway decide correctly, especially with my
business domains. Tomorrow they may decide to expand the list of
prohibited domain usages. That's not their role, and I think it is
HIGHLY inappropriate for any registrar to go so far.
Now, I could fully understand their canceling "add-on services" they
offer to registrants (via their retail and wholesale sections) such as
dns, email, etc, when they are being used to support a spam operation.
The possible harm to a registrant who is unfairly disconnected for
something like that is much less than the loss and lock of their domain
itself, and can easily get their domain back up and running within a
reasonable amount of time. Yes, that means even real spammers could get
back up in a short time as well, but just because something makes life
hard for spammers doesn't make it the right thing to do.
