My preference is DirectNic, it is $15/yr (more than openSRS, but I love the
interface, able to do mass changes, and I manage tons of domains for clients
through it.)
For $5/yr, they'll also do DNS for you that your clients can manage
themselves.

Ask your provider to create a CNAME for your reverse addresses. Like that,
they keep control and you have what you want.
A CNAMe must be created fot every IP adress in tour range that you want to
manage and has to point tot your name servers.

It is administrative/political.  They have the ability to delegate
authority to you, but choose not to.

Even if you get IP addresses directly from have ARIN, you need some way for
those IPs to be routed to you -- so you'll need to switch Internet
providers anyways (if your current provider won't let you be authoritative
for your reverse DNS, it is unlikely that they will allow you to route your
own IPs through them.

Those IPs "belong" to your Internet provider.  They can choose what to do
with them.  In this case, they are not allowing their customers to have
control over the reverse DNS (for example, many dialup and home DSL/cable
ISPs do not allow their customers to control the reverse DNS).

In this case, your options appear to be:

[1] Let your ISP handle the reverse DNS.  Reverse DNS entries rarely need
to be changed, so for most people, this would be satisfactory.
[2] Switch ISPs

I need to move all of my domains to some registrar that is competent or
almost competent.  As far as I can tell, Verisign/Network-Solutions is
totally useless.  For example: last year I wanted to register three domains
for three years each...  They've registered the first one for NINE YEARS
and the other two for one year.

Enough.  I'm not even going to try and fix it.  My original domain is
running out ( registered with the individual forms rather than the WEB
based thing they have now ) and these idiots can't even give me a way
to update it!  My account number predates the web thing and won't work
with it.

Would the list (you) please email me a recommendation for a replacement
for Network Solutions and I will summarize the responses to the list?
Please don't be funny, I know they could be replaced by a retarded chimp
but I'm looking for a domain registrar.  I'd like one that will let me
fill out forms AND reach a human if there's a problem.
