Now that I've decided on a computer, it's time to actually buy it. As most of you know, the VAIO S360 went out of stock at most retailers a long time ago. I finally stumbled on a site called www.euclidcomputers.com that still had a few in stock. However, I saw that they had the VAIO S270 as well, which only varies from the 360 with a DVD-RW drive, but has a slower CPU at 1.6 GHz and a smaller harddrive at 60 gigs. It was cheaper as well and without any more thought, I purchased the computer. The computer totaled to about $1,620 after shipping and was tax free. It took only 3 days to arrive, which is incredible for Euclid computers. Nevertheless, for those who value weight and battery life (more on this later) over performance, the compromise may still be acceptable. ULV processors drain less power and produce less heat, simultaneously reducing the need for bulkier cooling solutions and improving both weight and longevity. Furthermore, for general business and home applications, the D420 has more than enough power and even some left to spare. Whether writing documents, composing emails, watching DVDs, or surfing the web while listening to music, the D420 provides a first-rate experience comparable to most other machines on the market. The VAIO Central is a Control Panel applet that gives you access to many of the unit settings in one central location. It reminds me of the Microsoft Windows Powertoy: Tweak UI. You can do everything from manage your power settings to disable the VAIO boot animation. And speaking of the VAIO Power Management utility, it rocks. You can tweak several settings to squeeze every last bit of juice from the battery. I have set up my S270 to last as long as 5 hours...but that is with EVERYTHING turned down. And last but not least, the Sony VAIO Wireless utility does a nice job of walking you through connecting to a wireless network. Extraterrestrial Cultures?"
