Well, I wasn't going to be the first vendor to jump in so...
Our caching and traffic management products have a compression add-on. Its server-side only (no client software), does text and jpeg
compression, works on both our Windows software and our Appliances, is available now and costs $795 (in additional to the cache
itself, which varies in price depending on how many users you need to support).

I would have thought that there would be a Squid component
that would do this, or some other caching proxy server that
would compress the data before it handed it back out, but
nothing I can find seems to do it.
We signed a contract with a developer to do inline gzipping in Squid
about a month ago, and the code is already well under way. We're
running a ransom to fund the development, though I haven't finished the
website with the details...in short, if you'd like to see this happen in
Squid, you can contribute $400 and we'll make sure you either get Squid
with compression or you get your money back. If we don't raise the
money, the code goes to the initial sponsor (who has contributed $3000
of the devel budget) as work-for-hire, and it will not be made
distributed (yes, this is well within the GPL, so don't shake your fist
at me! ;-).
I haven't finished the website about the project yet, but it will
probably answer most questions as is:
For reference, we have run a successful ransom a few months ago for
development of Virtualmin, a virtual hosting control panel for Webmin.
We like to run an ongoing ransom for Squid acceleration features, if we
can get enough folks onboard for this first stage--if we take a huge
loss on this first ransom, then we'll have to drop the plans for image
resampling and other acceleration features. But, given the success of
the Virtualmin project, I think the Open Source community will help us
make it happen.
Anyway, I've planning to announce the fundraiser as soon as I finished
the website, but since you brought it up, it seems the right time to
make the ransom public.
Everyone who has priced Propel/Slipstream knows that $400 is just about
free in comparison.
