Total number of routes doesn't directly affect forwarding performance, but you will see a marked performance hit in the forwarding plane while the router is converging. The faster the links to your peers, the more marked the effect. An npe-400 will hold 512Mb of RAM. A single feed on my router is ~165,000 routes and together with the (huge) IOS (i have to run to support ssh and llq qos) uses 170Mb each additional feed adds about 20mb each. if all of your peers support route refresh (most do), you don't need neighbor x.x.x.x soft reconfig inbound, which helps with the memory requirements. ejay hire hostsouth.com _________________________________________________________________ Don’t just search.
