Lots of different way to count bigness, many of which do not correlate with each other. Are you interested in absolute geographic coverage, or number of discrete customers, or absolute size/share of global Internet production internalized, or total edge bandwidth, or annual revenues, annual profits, etc.? A top ten list based on (almost) all of these could be compiled from public information, but each list would be substantially different. What purpose are you trying to achieve by listing providers this way?

Does anyone know of an accurate up to do list of the Top 10 Backbone
carriers?

Here is a list of the top 5 that I found, but like to find a quotable
source with a bigger list.

Here are the AS numbers of the world five largest Internet backbones:

AS 7018: AT&T
AS 701: UUNET (MCI)
AS 1239: Sprint
AS 209: Qwest
AS 3356: Level 3 Communications
