But does this mean that I am NOT getting a default route from UUNet (701)
with a higher preference, or is it not needed since I get full routes from
701 and set the local pref to 120...

This just says you are learning a default route from Sprint.  Your 10/8
addressing is more specific (in your IGP) and not in your BGP table.
If you did a 'show ip route 10.10.1.10'  it will show you a more specific
route (most likely a /24 right?)  But if you did a 'show ip bgp 10.10.1.10'
it will point back to Sprint's default route, since that's all BGP knows.
