RE: [isp-bgp] BGP Multihoming tips
I am not terribly sure what to tell you on the hardware side, since I run a
single 7507 right now, but on the peering and ISP side, its normally very
easy.

With me, I am using Sprint and UUNet, with provider assigned space from
both. I had everything setup and working with Static addresses. When I got
my AS numbers, I programmed the BGP section of my router, then filled out a
sprint BGP activation form that tells about my address space, AS number,
route metrics, and preferred incoming feed. I chose to advertise all of my
address space to sprint (3 sprint, 1 uunet) with a priority 90, since this
is just a T1. I setup a default route incoming feed only, since I don't want
any traffic on this link unless there is a problem.

I then called UUNet and requested the same. Advertise all addresses to UUNet
with priority 110, requested full routes.

Once the BGP sessions were up and talking, The providers and I removed my
static routes (at the same time) and verified operation. It was simpler
then I would have expected.

Hope this helps, although not too technical. Hardest part was getting the
ASN.

Subject: [isp-bgp] BGP Multihoming tips

Hi All,

I currently have to setup a network involving BGP multihoming to two
different ISPs. I have a /24 IP space from ISP1 now.I would like to use it
for my network involving DMZ.I have two Cisco 7200 routers which will run
IBGP between them and the ISP1 terminates on R1 and ISP2 on R2 running EBGP.
I want to have inbound and outbound traffic load shared between the ISPs and
redundancy when one ISP fails.
Suggest me some good BGP multihoming tuning tips and what do I need to
negotiate with my ISPs for better reachability of my network in the internet
?

Since I have the PA ( Provider Assigned) /24 space from ISP1 , how do I go
forward with ISP2 to advertise it . The two ISPs are peered directly.

Thank You
Praful
