I have always used a private ASN (or UUnet's shared ASN 7046 when dealing with UUnet) when multihoming to the *same* provider. I can't seem to convince Sprint to let my customer do this - we have 3 Sprint t1s in different geographic locations and simply want to announce our prefixes (with no-export of course). I was told we'd need to get an ASN to run BGP. This seems wasteful, especially w/ ASNs being 16bit numbers that are rapidly depleting. Any ideas ? Anyone know how to approach this better w/ Sprint ? bgp4-admin@... has not responded to my request and its been a week+. Or should my customer go ahead and apply for an ASN even though we have no plans to multihome to different providers.
