Re:[isp-bgp] isp-bgp digest: October 30, 2004
Hello Mostafa !

First, thanks for your answer!

Second, as you said, i will use BGP only between ISP1 (ISP2) and 3660 and other protocol (iGRP or RIP) between 3660 and 7200 ?

How BGP in 3660 will load balacing requests from my network without being equal? I mean if i'm using 1.3 mb from ISP1 and 512k from ISP2 and my delay time to access X (in the internet) is 0.7 ms in ISP1 and 0.3 ms in ISP2, how BGP will choose the best option?

Thanks again !!!

Marcelo

Detail: Joshua said to me to throw away my 3com router and just use 3660 to receive both ISPs. By the way, thanks to you Josh too!

Hi Marcelo ,

1) I need to use BGP in this case? Is it the best option ?
2) I will use netflow to understand what's going on in 7200. Any other

idea ?

As you will be served by two different ISPs , the optimum solution is use
BGP .

With Netflow you will get a clear view of your traffic distribution (
volumes destination , source , application , etc ) and based on your
analysis to the output of the netflow you can implement ur traffic policy

With ur ISPs you have two 3 options
a.. Receive full BGP table
b.. Partial with default
c.. just defaults
In ur case ( Cisco 3600 ) , you can receive just default and configure
Multipath // Maximum-Paths 2 you will achieve loadbalancing upstream
for down stream you can break ur prefixes into 2 groups ( approximately
traffic destined to each one equal ) and this can be discovered by netflow ,
one group preferred from ISP1 and the other preferred from ISP2 and that by
using AS-PREPEND .

As for CISCO 7200 router with the edge router , you may run RIP , or IGRP or
just configure static routes .

Regards
