As Erik pointed out already, this doesn't make much sense. If you're
going to handle 1 Gbit/s of traffic from the beginning then where is all
the money going to that you cannot afford an appropriate router?
Maybe it would be sufficient to start with a simple FreeBSD box running
zebra or quagga. This'll surely be the cheapest method of getting your
network up and running. Build two rackmount boxes with Intel Gigabit
NICs (man em) and use freevrrpd for automatic failover. Look into
polling (man polling) if you really need to route that much traffic from
the beginning...
