What do you mean "bypassing the traditional selection algorithm"? 
Administrative distance ALREADY comes before the BGP path selection 
algorithm - the BGP rules only matter if there are two (or more) BGP 
choices and NO other choices with lower administrative distance.

Off the top of my head, I could understand (possibly) some adjustment of 
administrative distance values for IGPs and EGPs, but I think a router 
could get a little confused if xGPs had lower AD values than connected 
interfaces.
