For 5k, buy two different pieces of equipment:
1. Any 48 port switch that supports vlans
2. Cisco 7500 series router with an RSP4
You can find deals cheaper than that, but if you care about reliability,
you might not want to go there :)
You can try out the Foundry/Extreme L3 switches, but be prepared to buy a
router later :)
