you can get better performance with a single card doing long bursts, but 
multiple cards having to arbitrate for the bus is out of the question -- 
especially when you are limited to ethernet-packet-sized pci transactions. 
(interrupt mitigation only gets you so far, and the chip buffers arent 
infinitely deep).

put two escalades in and youd likely see performance drop.
