Depending on the router you are using, you might want to enable Netflows (on a higher end Cisco) and watch what type of traffic it is, or IPAc on Linux. I'm sure there's equivilant protocols on the other platforms... You might also want to throw MRTG on your Router and Switch and watch and see what port the traffic is entering the network from.
