[isp-bgp] RE: Questions about a Cisco 6509

I'm sorry. Cisco doesn't really scale well compared to their
competition. I understand that Cisco is a big win for some
businesses (you never get fired for buying from IBM^H^H^HCisco).

Your choices on the 6500 platform are between the SUP1A/MSFC2, SUP2U,
and SUP720. The SUP720 is the cheapest of the three options, but it
just came out. The SUP2U is over a year old, and the SUP1A/MSFC2 is
antiquated (and it also costs the most).

512MB on the SUP2U normally works. 128M is not going to work for anything
except partial routes. You don't want that, I take it.

Mixed DC and AC power?

You probably want to make this a SUP2U or SUP720.

The WS-X6148-RJ-45 is a much better choice. The above modules
have a software and hardware problems related to their Pinnacle
COIL Asic's and the Asic's were respun for the 6148 modules. I
recommend against getting the WS-X6348 modules for many reasons,
but you will also find that the WS-X6148 is about half the cost
(cheaper, faster, better Asic's).
