Hi all,
I have charged with updating our network architecture. We have decided
to go with Cisco as our router/switching.
My understanding so far of the 6500 is it is a switch until you add the
Supervisor card (WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE). Will the WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE card
does BGP itself, or do I need a daughter card of some sort?
Also, how much memory should I have for the 3 full BGP feeds? I have
read that Cisco recommends 128MB per BGP feed, but I have also heard
murmers that the 128 MB will soon be inadequate due to the global
routing size. So with 512MB, would there be enough memory left over to
service the router's requirements while holding the 3 BGP feeds?
The reason for the 6509 is we would be amalgamating our existing 2924's
into it, so the switching functions are required.
Here is the configuration that I have come up with from the Cisco
configurator. With my requirements above, will this suite my needs?
WS-CDC-2500W Catalyst 6000 2500W DC Power Supply
WS-CAC-2500W/2 Catalyst 6000 Second 2500W AC Power

Thanks for all the help with this.
