The ISP-BGP Discussion List is for ISP
technicians, network administrators, engineers, Internet architects and
other professionals that need to further or share their understanding
of the Border Gateway Protocol.
Simply defined, BGP enables groups of routers or autonomous systems to
share routing information in order to establish efficient, loop-free routes.
BGP is commonly used within and between ISPs. The protocol is further
defined in RFC1771.
Topics for discussion include scaling issues, class-B network address
space, routing tables, multi-homing, software management, classless inter-domain
routing (CIDR), and IP network number allocations. Discussion occasionally
takes a theoretical turn as technicians discuss long-term remedies for
network address space conservation.
