My point is that you were trying to downplay depeering as "Level3 tried to bully us long ago". It was 2.5 years ago (not five years as you claimed), and I'm not convinced that Cogent is never the aggressor. And traffic between 174 and 1299 was nonexistent for a while. Here's what's wrong with that: * Let's say that Cogent doesn't purchase transit, and Telia does. Cogent will receive Telia's routes via Telia's transits. Done and done. * Let's say that Cogent purchases transit. Send 1299-destined traffic via Cogent's transit. Done and done. * Let's say that neither Cogent nor Telia purchases transit. Why depeer? Was the loss of connectivity better than the alternative? (Some of us have been in the game long enough to recall when AS174 was PSI.Net, and often would have 25% packet loss at MAE-E and MAE-W.) Who nuked the BGP sessions on whose orders? Were ACLs nuking _1299_ in place at 174? If so, by whom and on whose orders? Likewise, did 1299 have ACLs to zap _174_? If so, by whom and on whose orders?
