Re: [isp-bandwidth] Om Malik supports throttling, gets flamed
At least in the electric case the answer could be an unlimited one. San Jose is starting to put together a program where anyone with a roof top can have 0 down financing for solar systems. You pay the same rate as you would with PGE instead after 15 years you actually own your power. The excess that your system generates goes to pay off your system and is used at peek time when it's needed by business. After 15 years you own your system free and clear and you get to keep the extra cash flow. Why mention this, because it's a technological solution to a problem. Dial caused all sorts of hell for the voice network, new high speed services replaced and fixed that problem however introduced new ones. There are solutions and I think one thing we need to remember is this game changes at a rate much faster than what we've experienced before. I don't think it's realistic to think the unlimited plans will go away. Charge more possibly but not go away. Smart people will figure out the transmition / bandwidth problem.

That's a fair process to all, but confusing to the customer.
Is it confusing that I can't have a $x/mo gasoline bill, then drive
however much I want?

Is it confusing that, for a fixed monthly fee, I can't use all the
electricity I want?

Is it confusing that I buy groceries according to how much I use?
