You pay a flat rate for the privilege of having the service, call it a "minimum use charge", then you pay X for usage. That's a fair process to all, but confusing to the customer. Our industry really needs to move to this type of model if we want to continue to make a profit. Again, every other utility is charged with a flat rate for having the service, then X for anything above that. Even cable/satellite. You pay one price for the service, then extra for additional services. You pay whether you watch it or not, and you pay MORE for EXTRA TV's... We should be charging a fee for each computer in use as well. Someone needs to start the ball rolling in this direction... Back to the buffet, when it comes to internet you buy one plate and the whole family eats. We should be charging per plate like everyone else. ATM, we are raising our broadband rates 30% and calling it a fuel surcharge. Our costs have gone up yet our prices in the industry keep going down. Again, this does not happen with other utilities. My 800 # services have risen 60% for the minimum charge under the guise of a fuel surcharge. We should all be doing the same.
