Re: [isp-bandwidth] Om Malik supports throttling, gets flamed
Internet's internet the only difference here is features. A 16 meg Pipe from Comcast though delivers the same 16 megs as a dsl 2+ loop from another carrier. Granted I may have a different SLA, certainly the extra options you mentioned and more delivery technologies but IP is IP whether it's handed to me at a data center or over a Coax.

With dial-up you expected an occasional busy signal. You know that you
get what you pay for with dial-up

If you listen to Comcasts ads you expect the absolute best service in the
world, period. Better then ATT, etc. They set the customer expectation
that you will reach the INTERNET. The same internet that you would reach
with Covad, New Edge, or NetZero.

I challenge you to call a Comcast customer service person, order their
service, and ask if you will reach the same internet as the other carriers
provide. They dont know the difference, they dont know port blocking or
traffic limiting. They know that they have a product to sell, something
they think is the INTERNET

And that is false advertising.

Dennis

Dennis,

Duh.

We get it. Well, most of us anyways.

There is a difference between residential, business, and commercial
internet.

Price for service comes to mind.

You typically do not get 100 megabit or faster w/BGP4 service for $50 to
$100 a month.

Duh.

Tell me, just how is it that people "in the know" would even consider that
residential internet equals commercial internet?
