Or do what Rogers up here in the frozen wasteland has done: sell four packages with different free amounts of usage, email etc and charge so much per meg over per month. I got caught, hate it, but realize that infrastructure isn't free. So I guess I make a choice, use it and pay for it like everything else in life, or control the usage. The only other major broadband provider available here is Bell, and they have the same policy. Or look for another provider and have the same thing happen there. Carriers want to market you always on unlimited access, they just don't want to actually deliver that service. If you can't handle everyone having 16 megabit connections if they actually use the service then don't sell that much pipe or charge more for the usage. Today it's P2P, tomorrow it's video, they will always bitch about something. (Sign up for Comcast's BLAST, just don't use it!) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alex Goldman" <agoldman@...> To: <isp-bandwidth@isp-bandwidth.com> Sent: Monday, April 28, 2008 1:26 PM Subject: [isp-bandwidth] Om Malik supports throttling, gets flamed > Shocking: New Facts About P2P and Broadband Usage > Om Malik, > > http://gigaom.com/2008/04/22/shocking-new-facts-about-p2p-and-broadband-usag > e/ > > > On fixed and mobile broadband networks where consumer services are > provided > (i.e., NOT interprovider or typical dedicated Internet access for > commercial > enterprises): > > 10 percent of subscribers consume 80 percent of bandwidth. > 0.5 percent of subscribers consume about 40 percent of total bandwidth > 80 percent of subscribers use less than 10 percent of bandwidth > > > This supports the arguments made by some of the larger ISPs, including > Comcast.
