[isp-australia] Sued because of Email account
Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has any insights into this one.

I have just got a letter from a solicitor who is attempting to sue one of my clients for defamation.

They had a website hosted on us which we have removed and the client have moved it to host in the US, but they have left a page up on our servers that has a link to another page which then links to them. So its not hosted on us and doesn't directly link to them.

The issue is I have received a letter from a Solicitor saying if I do not removed their EMAIL account (They are paying internet customers and have been for many years) they will sue me!

Has anyone heard of this? Surely a person can not be exiled from having an email address? If they aren't with us they will go somewhere else are they intending to chase down every ISP in the country?

Does anyone know the law on this? Of course if a court tells me to remove their email account I would have to, but to be sued because of a clients email box would open up all sorts of issues of confidentiality and what can and can't be sent through email!!

any info would be greatly appreciated.

regards
